Eurovision 2015 - my thoughts
So Eurovision passed last weekend, and with Aussie-land competing for the first time, here are my thoughts on all forty songs in running order (and the entrants in the order of their little preview vignette I guess)...
Note: when I say things like 'best entry ever' and the like, I mean from the 2008 Final when I started watching Semi-Final 1: Moldova - loved it! dat policegurl Fun song, catchy. Favourite Moldovan entry so far. Yes maybe I enjoyed this too much because of the policewoman but you know... that's Eurovision for you Armenia - *blank stare* no. just no. Downhill since 2008. Everything has been mediocre or absolute crap (2009 and 2015). Can they send anything like... good anymore? Belgium - wtf is this shit. seriously. Guy looks like a serial killer and not in the good way. 2013 was a good serial killer look. This is stupid. Bring back the glory days of 2009 and 2010! Elvis impersonator - that was good entertainment. They didn't qualify but I really enjoyed their song. Netherlands - Why? But then again after last year, everything would be a step down. Finland - they can do so much better. This is embarrassing. I get that Eurovision has to have novelty entries, but this is a bad novelty entry - it's up there with Russian grandmas, I don't enjoy it when the novelty entries try too hard and/or have a bad song underneath. Greece - sorry Greece, Bond themes were so last year. It's so sad because they usually send good entries except when they try to go 'modern dance' like with 2011's "Wash My Pants" and 2014's whatever the hell that was. Poor reactionary decision to send this 'Bond'-esque song... Estonia - dat staging. I loved it! One of the only duets that actually -worked-. Favourite since 2009! Or maybe all time favourite for this country. It was tuneful and haunting somewhat, which gave it some good substance FYR Macedonia - pretty good song, and the best part of it were the back-up dancers/singers. They were fantastic and so entertaining. But doesn't beat 2012's entry unfortunately in my books. Serbia - we need at least one gay acceptance song, and this is up there with one of the best I've heard from Eurovision. There can be good ones like these and bad ones (Gaitana and Ukraine a few years back) Great work! Favourite is still 2012. Hungary - i hate it when songs get political and sing about peace. BORING. And so ends the run of five decent to great entries. Belarus - this was pretty good, but the title is unfortunate. The true 'Time' was the drunk Israelis on stage! But since 2009, they've been going downhill... Russia - *yawn* you guys send the same damn thing every year pretty much. That's three years in a row, and five years of boring or stupid entries. Denmark - number 8 in a proud tradition of non-terrible entries. Great work again! Catchy, upbeat and tuneful, not a lot of substance but sounds good and not in a bad way. Albania - this song makes me want to dance... off of a cliff. Since I've started watching Eurovision, I've only liked two of their entries - and that's only a "it's decent" or "entertaining". Surely they can do better? Romania - a song with meaning, tuneful, and well set up on stage. Love the bilingual nature of the song. Romania is usually pretty good, but how can you ever top the great Cezar in 2013? Georgia - upbeat and not about love, this automatically stands out. Kinda catchy too. Favourite entry of all time is still 'Waterfall' in 2013 though. By a very, very, very big margin. Semi-Final 2: Lithuania - I really liked this song. Super catchy. 2010 was a good year for them. 2013 was fantastic. This is up there with 2013, this is just a great entry that encapsulates what I want from Eurovision: a bit of ridiculousness, nice stage performance and just a nice to listen to song underneath it all. Ireland - points for using the word 'numbers' in the song, I thought it'd do a bit better. Pretty good. Better than anything Jedward ever offered. Had to listen to this in full though separately, since it didn't really 'stick' the first time I watched it (which may be a problem in terms of votes), it has a very... modern feel San Marino - kids, this isn't Junior Eurovision. You have to sing about more adult topics instead of world peace. Okay? This was stupid and the worst song by FAR. I hate this entry so much I can't even... Montenegro - I usually like songs in their native language but I couldn't get into this one unfortunately bit boring. After the glory days of 2009 and 2012, it's just been... lame. It's sad. Best part of their entry was Andrea Demirovic presenting their votes. Malta - this was boring, and largely forgettable. Actually, entirely forgettable. They had three great songs the past three years and now this? Norway - I really, really, really like this song. Even more when I listened to the lyrics. Also LOVE the variable sized belt on the girl. (yes I know it's her stomach). Actually my favourite Norwegian entry ever. Portugal - this was decent, good on Portugal for singing in Portuguese. But seemed a bit typical to what they usually send in. Czech Republic - throwing shoes? wtf. Send in the gypsys you had in 2009. That was infinitely better than this. Israel - ahahahah their lyrics "Before you leave let me show you Tel Aviv" so classic SO GOOD. Catchy tune, they do better when they put upbeat stuff. None of this 2009 Palestine-Israel peace song crap, like yeah it's great for your international relations but it's three minutes of TV I really don't want to watch Latvia - *yawn* you can do so much better. 2008 Latvian pirates? Azerbaijan - song title was the best part of this song: 'Hour of the Wolf'. Tried too hard. After 'Running Scared', all downhill. Iceland - boring. Trying too hard again. They had a lovely novelty entry last year, but 2008-9 were their glory days. Sweden - upbeat pop song, but I felt it relied too much on the TV screen stuff. But that just means great production values. I still maintain that their win this year just makes up for their extremely strong song last year. If only their 2015 entry was in 2014, and vice versa, I would've been a happy man. Switzerland - after 'Hunter of Stars' last year, everything is a step down. But this is boring and bland and typical and stupid. Girl is sorta cute though... Cyprus - a quiet, thoughtful, love song. This one was tuneful and alright actually. Usually their songs are pretty meh. 2012 is their best entry though. Slovenia - I dunno what it is about this song, maybe it's the lead singer's voice, but it's pretty catchy. Love the headphones. It's totally cute. I really wondered what they could do to back up after their -awesome-, -awesome- evil Disney princess song last year which I loved so much, but this is a worthy follow-up. Poland - *facepalms*. The 2014 entry... brings back great memories (mammaries?) but this is just... ugh Automatic finalists: Spain - wtf is 'Amanecer'. Typical Spanish entry that tries waaaaaaaaaaaay too hard. When they didn't try at all in 2008, that was when they did great. Germany - this one was alright, but not Lena 'Satellite' level <3 . Catchy to a degree. After their song last year which pretty great, this was... not that great compared to that. UK - the best part of this is the lead female singer's voice, everything else is stupid. Bonnie Tyler was alright, Humperdinck was fantastic, Blue was also great. This is just... so mediocre and passe in comparison Italy - Italy do best when they send something like this, see 'Madness of Love' a few years back. Pretty good. Austria - modern, contemporary in an indie kind of way. I liked this a lot actually. Two songs in a row which are good, although nothing can beat their 2003 entry in terms of pure, unadulterated, wtf Eurovision entertainment France - trying too hard. Bring back the bearded ladies of 2008! Or the catchy dance tune Allez Ola Ole. Entertain us! This is just too dramatic and not in the good way, that opera singer they had a few years ago was alright, this is... not good. Australia - best song there. no bias. Heard it for the first time Sunday morning... I can't get it out of my head but that's good, right?

Euovision Thread!
I'd almost given up hope. I actually quite enjoyed Belgiums entry though yeah it was kinda weird. Overall it seemed a lot more tasteful than past years, in good and bad ways. Russia is so try-hard every year though. I remember they had that trapeze guy a while ago. Not to say that they don't pull it off, there songs are usually right up there but still.

Re: Eurovision 2015 - my thoughts
I think this year was the most uninteresting ever overall and I've been watching it every year since 1995. I few were OK to quite good. Most just had nothing going for them. Bring back the Russian Grandmas, they were great.

Re: Eurovision 2015 - my thoughts
Eurovision is so much more than just a song. It's the weirdness, the outfits, the songs that don't make sense. The presenters with their strange ways of speaking English and so on..
