The only thing I missed was skill development. When the season is finished, player skill increases or decreases according to the skill development level achieved during the season. If this is 10, skill remains unchanged. Above 10 will result in a skill increase. Below 10 will result in a skill decrease. Skill development points are earned by playing matches, and younger players earn skill development points more easily than older players. While having your most skilled players in your match lineup maximizes your chances of winning the match, you sometimes want to include some of your younger and less skilled players. If you never field your younger and less skilled players, their skill will decrease and you're left with a bunch of unskilled losers when your stars of today retire. Player age increases 1 year per season, and players usually retire when they are 33-34 years old (?). Nothing of this impacts your current season, so I guess it only matters if you plan to stick around for several seasons, which you need to if your goal is to win the league.
