Chinese "super missile" could threaten U.S. Pacific dominance

Ooh, interesting. America might actually have some competition. Good, we needed someone to villainize since the Soviets kicked the bucket.

Zy, your attacks on Dandesade were pretty much all strawmen and manipulations of his words, while you ignored what he was actually intending to say. Poor show mate.

China will eventually pass the US. Of this I have no real doubt. The question is how soon, and the answer is another question or five - Can America regain the qualities that made it great in the first place? Can China modernize their entire country while avoiding the mistakes that Western nations made in their trek? Will China allow their citizens to become more free, thus unleashing the tremendous human capital they have to work with? Even if the answer to all of these are favorable to America and unfavorable to China, America will eventually lose simply by virtue of economy. 350 million cannot compete on a roughly equal field with three or four times their number.

As far as China's ability to sink carriers, bring it on. We can revert to WWII philosophy as far as carriers go - make them a bit cheaper and build a ton of them. And they'll become less formidable, but when you've got 80 of them... good luck sinking them all.

erm... not to sound like I didnt read this entire conversation but...

Is said super missile able to hit the ship b4 the ship can hit it?

IE: does the ship or the missile have a longer firing range? B/c the ships and fighter planes also have a long range if i'm not mistaken...

Looks like china v. US will be the next cold war. Might even turn hot.

It's not that I didn't want to meet his points, it's just that his words were so jumbled and nonsensical that I really didn't know what his points were.

and... If you build a lot of cheap carriers.... China wouldn't need such expensive missiles to sink them.

Well, the problem with that is that Light Carriers assuming they even have something along the lines of a carbon fiber decks, will only mean less shit for the DF-21D to go through, and you have to remember that Aircraft carriers and ships in general are big bulky machines that costs lots of money, the DF-21D is relatively cheap, and if they run out of them, they can use airplanes.

It depends on the Scenario of course. If this conflict starts like how it's depicted in that Chinese online newspaper, than the U.S. CBG would be far outranged, depending on where they're at in that moment of time, of cours.e The DF-21 series generally has a range of 3000 km, so we can expect the DF-21D to have the same range, and I can't remember the range of the F/A-18E/F, but it's not far enough to hit the launchers first. On that point, you should note that DF-21Ds come from TELs, which are basically mobile silos, so they could shoot a volly or two of DF-21D, travel at 30 mph and scoot away to the forests. But now that I think about it, the U.S. could probably end the war by landing a few JDAMs on the 3 Gorges dam, might kill a few million Chinese, but would either raise an international outrage against the U.S. or jump the Chinese to revolution, either way, war is bad and we should all have sex.

That is something you have to factor into the war as well... I can't imagine that the people are too happy with their "government", and with propaganda/other factors, they could very well jump into a revolution.

Well, you must understand that the Chinese won't cover up the 3 Gorges dam being destroyed, and unless it's a super duper clever 007 operation, everyone will know that a B-2 dropped them bombs, and America will get fucked up the ass for it, Europe might as well just cut relations and Russia might as well come in and arrest the "terrorist government".
