Can Southeast Asian Countries survive?
As all people is concerned- Uncle Sam's economy is going down. Knowing that USA's economy is the largest "national" economy in the world (EU is a union of european countries and I won't consider it as a national economy- It has by far surpassed America's economy in the global scale). The economies of Southeast Asia especially the founding members of ASEAN ( Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines) countries which are more dependent on exports are being dragged down along with western economies. Can they still survive the worsening scenario? What are their individual advantages or assets that might be able to help them survive the crisis? What are the possible actions that they should make to develop their economies (Added by the rise of China and India as Global Powers and are major competitors on foreign investments siphoning away investors that would otherwise invest in SEA)?

Re: Can Southeast Asian Countries survive?
Yeah sure they can. I think they seen worst. Unlike Americans which in the first sign of trouble they panic and hide under their beads with bibbles at hand, the people of this nations allready have it so bad, things can't get any worst, they can only get better.

Re: Can Southeast Asian Countries survive?
They'll survive, but export economies are probably going to have a long, hard slog in this economic mess, from what I hear. Also, things like ASEAN may be conscious efforts by China to displace America from economic primacy in the region.

Re: Can Southeast Asian Countries survive?
they will survive because they've had it bad for hundreds or decades of years before this recession. of course they will be greatly affected by the lack of exports which will indefinately hurt their economy, but they will survive just like they have done in the past

Re: Can Southeast Asian Countries survive?
As I know, the Philippines was able to lower export dependency from 50% of the GDP to current only 20% of it's GDP. It will still grow because of it's large domestic market (having a population of more than 90,000,000 people) and support from Business Outsourcing Companies (being Asia-Pacific's second largest BPO hubs after India)
