Default 2020 NHL Playoffs
This contest will run through the playoffs and include the Stanley Cup.

You will make predictions for one round at a time.

You will earn points as follows:

1 point for each correct prediction in the first two rounds.
2 points for each correct prediction in the Conference Championship round.
4 points for predicting the winner of the Stanley Cup.

The winner of the contest is the nation ruler with the most points at the end of the playoffs. The winner will receive his choice of 200 tech or 12 million (18 million) cash at the end of the wars.

The first round has the following matchups:

Tampa Bay vs Columbus
Philadelphia vs Montreal
Washington vs NY Islanders
Boston vs Carolina
Las Vegas vs Chicago
Colorado vs Phoenix
St. Louis vs Vancouver
Dallas vs Calgary

Your predictions are due at the end of the day, Monday August 10th.

I'm trying a new strategy this year.

Tampa Bay vs Columbus: Columbus because it's nearer Canada
Philadelphia vs Montreal: Montreal because it's in Canada
Washington vs NY Islanders: NY because it's nearer Canada
Boston vs Carolina: Boston because it's nearer Canada
Las Vegas vs Chicago: Chicago because it's nearer Canada
Colorado vs Phoenix: Colorado because the team used to be in Canada
St. Louis vs Vancouver: Vancouver because it's in Canada
Dallas vs Calgary: Calgary because it's in Canada

I admittedly don't have a good handle on the playoffs this year. Here are my picks.

The Blue Jackets swept the Lightning last year in a major upset. Tampa Bay will be eager to avenge that loss, and I'm picking the Lightning.

I didn't realize Philly was that good. Given their performance in the round-robin, give me the Flyers over the Canadiens.

I have no preference, but I'll take the Capitals over the Islanders in a close series.

The Bruins have not played well in the bubble. I like the Hurricanes as my upset pick.

I rolled some dice, and I got the Golden Knights advancing over the Blackhawks.

In this match-up of former Canadian teams, I'll take the Avalanche (formerly the Nordiques) over the Coyotes (the original Jets).

The defending champions also sucked in the round-robin stage, but I have to take my Blues over the Canucks.

The Stars, our nemesis recently. I must take the Flames.

Damn, I hadn't realized the Coyotes were the Jets. I guess that shows how much I've been following the NHL in recent decades.

Still, Quebec > Rest of Canada, so I'm satisfied with my choice of Avalanche.

Moreover, if South Park is to be believed, Colorado has winters.
