Yep, fat won't turn into muscle. Actually being that fat cells produce small amounts oestrogen, they can have an adverse effect on muscle growth. So avoid massively increasing your calorific intake as you'll just end up with love handles and bitch tits.

Technically protein is not essential for body development, amino acids are (breakdown products of proteins). So if you ever do end up buying muscle building supplements, ones made with amino acids rather than protein will be more efficiently used by your body.

Anyway lean meats and pulses are excellent sources of protein.

This is true. Make sure you get the proper amino acids and powder should list if it has them or not. There should be calculators online to find out how much you need.
