Default 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs
Major League Soccer is the highest level of soccer (football for those of you non-Americans) in the United States and Canada. Somewhat, but not entirely, unique to domestic soccer leagues, MLS determines its league champion by a North American-style playoff tournament, which is the focus of this contest. Newly expanded in 2023, 18 teams take part, 9 from each conference. Los Angeles FC is the defending champion, and they are seeded third in the West. Expansion team St. Louis City SC earned the top seed in the West, while FC Cincinnati clinched the Supporters' Shield for the first time after earning the best record in regular-season play.

This contest is part of the 2023-24 Legion Cup. Top finishers will also receive points for the North American and Football/Soccer mini-cups. The winner will also receive 2 slot-equivalents ($18m of CN or PnW aid, $12m of CN aid without the FAC, or 200 tech).

Each conference will begin with a single wild-card match with no extra time, with the winners moving on to play the 1 seeds. The first round proper is made up of best-of-3 series with no ties or aggregate score (draws go straight to PKs). The remaining rounds are straight single-elimination, with extra time and PKs to break ties.

You will be picking the wild card matches and the first round proper concurrently. Here are the match-ups (I've inlined the wild card match-ups):
  • (E1) FC Cincinnati vs. (E WC) New York Red Bulls/Charlotte FC
  • (E4) Philadelphia Union vs. (E5) New England Revolution
  • (E3) Columbus Crew vs. (E6) Atlanta United FC
  • (E2) Orlando City SC vs. (E7) Nashville SC
  • (W1) St. Louis City SC vs. (W WC) Sporting Kansas City/San Jose Earthquakes
  • (W4) Houston Dynamo FC vs. (W5) Real Salt Lake
  • (W3) Los Angeles FC vs. (W6) Vancouver Whitecaps FC
  • (W2) Seattle Sounders FC vs. (W7) FC Dallas

All matches in the wild card round and first round proper are worth 1 point each, and picks are due at the start of the match (wild card) or series (first round). There are way too many start times to post here, so I'll just post the earliest for both (Wednesday at 6:30 PM for the wild card and 4 PM on Saturday for the first round) and invite you to check the contest calendar or the Major League Soccer website for the other start times.
