Their passage to heaven. They would have to first pass a test of the Death God, Anubis. Anubis has similarities to that of a cat! But, he's a scary looking humanoid cat being, I guess?

Anubis would quite literally take the person's heart and weight it on a weighing scale. At the other end of the scale, he would place a feather. If the weighing scale shows no deflection, the person lived a life without sins, and they get sent to heaven. However, if the heart weighed more than the feather, Anubis gets angry and banishes them straight to hell.

It's probably why the Egyptians make sure to keep the heart inside the mummified body of the rulers, despite removing all the other organs as part of the mummification process. They probably don't want to put Anubis in a dilemma.

I think the Egyptians believed that the heart was more important than the brain. The Anubis story was quite captivating to me when I first read it.
