Brexit resulted due to the old and arrogant British mindset; of superiority and looking down upon other nationalities. The lack of dedicated and sincere politicians has only amplified the problem.
The older Britons have put the future of the younger generation in jeopardy by effectively reducing opportunities for education, employment, marriage and so on.

I would say over the last millennium, and certainly last 500 years, the English have earned that arrogant mindset.

But frankly, it doesn't matter when they earned that mindset. The fact is that it has harmed them in a way they do not understand at the moment. The Brexit vote is a sign that Britain is falling prey to selfish, narrow-minded politicians.
