What music are you listening to right now?
I'm listening to Rammstein on Spotify. I love German metal, Rammstein, Oomph, Megahertz, Eisbrecher, etc.

Re: What music are you listening to right now?
Old Rammstein is not bad. I like "Amerika". The others I don't know personally.
I'm not a big music listener, but progressive is what I enjoy most. Not really underground stuff, rather known bands like Pink Floyd or King Crimson. I also listen to music while writing, usually looping on one song for hours to put myself in trance-like mood. When doing this I to pick pop music, Lady Gaga being one favourite in this category. Recently, I have found "Call Me Maybe" to be a very effective writing song. I must have written at least one full chapter in my PhD thesis while listening to it--which represents something like 20 hours in duration. Most of the time, though, I just enjoy the silence very much...

Call Me Maybe would drive me insane to listen to.
I forgot about Kraftklub, though they are more pop-rock than metal. Not much for pop other than Adele, Imagine Dragons and Lorde. Most of what I'm listening to is rock. Metallica, Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Rage Against the Machine..... What is your PhD in?

Re: What music are you listening to right now?
The insane-drivingness rate of Call Me Maybe is inferior to that of writing a PhD, so if it can save time it's a winner.
The PhD was computer science, more precisely artificial intelligence, more precisely yet qualitative spatio-temporal textual case-based reasoning.

Anything except modern American "country" music and opera.

Why german metal, specifically? does it sound very different? Or is it just the sound of the language you like?

Plus, Rammstein is just fucking crazy. Example, their song Mein Teil, which was about an infamous murder case in Germany where a man wanted to be literally eaten alive. (Lyrics translated into English)

Do you listen to other german music genres, say rap or hip-hop?
I quite like this one for examples https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opoDBF_b-fg
