i think NK will shoot ---------- I will figuratively eat my hat if they don't. I will revert to what i was known as before (avatar) if they don't.

Re: Nuclear War maybe
Assuming China backs up its promise to stay out if NK is the initial aggressor and someone doesn't jump the gun, the war would be a pretty short one. The only reason NK exists is because of Chinese backing since its founding if that goes away, the country will collapse.
I'm actually more concerned about future reunification of the Korean peninsula if the war does happen. That will be a messy thing, one where as the US as the person who destabilized the country would have to be the stabilizing force for sometime probably not unlike South Korea is today. Advantage is South Korea is a close ally and for the most part seems pretty welcoming to their northern folks, but there would be a decade or more of lots of bumps before the North got stabilized again I think. EDIT: Example of possible reunification issues, the South with their increased money reserves through companies buy up most NK land from folks who live there for extremely cheap. The North Koreans now bereft of their only material ability to trade find themselves no longer in land they own and the money that seemed like so much would quickly run out. Thus injecting a large unemployed, unskilled population into the South Korean population. Decades of mistrust among the people would take time to overcome and a large poverty stricken population is no good for anyone. I'm unsure about any social safety net if it exists in South Korea like modern american welfare etc. But a large population suddenly drawing upon a source like that when they can't contribute to it's funding will drain the country's governmental reserves and create large amount of financial and social issues. I'm not claiming to be an expert far from it, just saying I can see lots of issues here that as the country who would win in a very short war (again assuming China stays out) would then need to go on to seeing those people we saved from a tyrannical government don't end up in another form of misery. Honestly it might be a good idea to tap German allies and see what worked and didn't in the German Reunification and what lessons we could learn from that to apply to Korea.

Re: Nuclear War maybe
No way is NK shooting. They've been making empty threats for decades. Only difference now is that Trump is making empty threats back.
Contrary to popular belief, Kim is not crazy, just trying to appear strong to his people and understands that his bravado is just that. Edit: NK might shoot insofar as another Nuclear test but the regime knows they're done if they actually bomb anyone.

Re: Nuclear War maybe
maybe not crazy but he is young
and to my knowledge if it hits 12 off guam its in international kind of hard to judge a ICBM trajectory US may just punch it out of the sky and inadvertently start the next Korea late edit: I was actually thinking about MIRVs for delivery

My point being he may assume his position is more secure then it really is by falsely believing since its always been this way for him it always will. Additionally in responding to -Un's threats it puts him in a corner where he either calls the bluff and possibly starts a war or looks weak. He can still do nuke tests etc within his own country and save face but it might cause some fissures in the group if he doesn't answer the US threat head on. Additionally with Chinese allies growing colder to the regime it will put additional pressure on them to either acquiesce or prove they are a strong independent state. It could go either way from historical precedent but people were saying Hitler would chill out if they just let him take over the land Germany lost in WWI in the 30s. Just saying where rogue states are concerned nothing is impossible in their actions.

Re: Nuclear War maybe
When a despot like this young thug kills people with anti-aircraft guns and takes food from his citizens (figuratively) to build rockets, the state is at the end of its rope. I have known a good number of South Korean immigrants to the USA. It's almost like they view N. Koreans like a family might view a grown daughter that they suspect married into an abusive relationship. North Koreans that make it to the US are often much thinner and a head shorter than their S. Korean counterparts.
Starting to feel like Iraq all over again. Will we see a reprise of Desert Storm, or the fall of the Iron curtain? For now, I wouldn't worry until the US military evacuates US citizens. If that ever happens...
