North South Korean War- Peace Finally?

I'll start it off with a brief recap for those who might have missed it, as despite the absolutely monster of a news story this is, it hasn't been aired as much as it should be. North and South Korean presidents met today and worked out a peace agreement to formally end the Korean War. The Korean War has been technically ongoing since the 60s and though the most of that has been with an armistice between the two so no active fighting, but merely large tensions.

Is a link to a news article that goes into detail about the peace deal. Now there is time for either side to back out, and tensions go right back where they were. I do not trust the leader of NK to keep his word however I am cautiously hopeful that this is good news for absolutely everyone invovled.

I've personally been thinking something was up given China's lack of public huge commitment to NK since Trump took office, that it has exhibited in the past. As without China NK would have fallen decades ago, but we no longer live in the world of the Cold War.

I hope this is the beginning of a process that will end with the fall of Kim family, and reunification of Korea under a democratic government without bloodshed. Thats high hopes indeed and even unrealistic but if the treaty is followed, I have hope that maybe it can be done in my life time.

If both sides can formally end the war, they can ask the UN for help in bringing the border off of a war footing, removing land mines, etc. I hope that becomes a real part of the peace process. Making that move provides momentum for the nuke talks.
Thinking about all the Koreans I've met, they love to do things together, intensely so. This development is huge, and way overdue.

Its a dictatorship and Kim will never let it go even if he allows peace with South Korea and allowed the war to end it doesn't mean a thing for his other politics. He needs to either find a way to keep pressure on his people so he can maintain his position, or to magically turn in to a benevolent leader who makes the live of his people better and make sure that if he leaves power it will be worse for every one. the last isn't likely so he needs to find someone for his people to hate/fear and its very likely the US will continue to be that someone.

All I have to say is that I hope Kim isn't agreeing to shut down his testing sites because he doesn't need them anymore.
What if he doesn't need his testing sites because he already found a way to perfect his Missiles?
