Routers
So currently I am gaming off of wireless internet and I lose about 1/5 of the signal. I want to try and improve my connection however my dad has to connect using an ethernet cable since his laptop is DoD one and you arent supposed to install things on them. So here is a like a map of my current set up Modem->Router->family PC/DoD laptop(sometimes)/gaming computer(wireless)
So I was wondering if it is possible for me to move my router and modem, then put my wireless network card on my family computer, and run an ethernet cable from that computer to my dads laptop? Modem->Router->gaming computer->family computer(wireless)->DoD laptop(wired)

Re: Routers
If you don't want to move things around, but want to improve your overall wireless experience, check out wireless repeaters. Just takes the existing wifi signal and amplifies the range. I picked one up about 3 weeks ago and works pretty good. They are just as expensive as a router, but its worth it if you need to stay wireless. And it works fine for gaming and HD streaming.

Otherwise you'd need to actually buy a wireless bridge-- a wifi receiver with ethernet out ports. edit: or upgrade the router itself

Remember that wireless is usually going to be slower then direct connection. You will typically notice a 20-30% drop from hard connection speeds over wireless.
Now as far as the actual signal is concerned, pretty much what Imperial said.
