Anybody here play DOA in any of its numerous iterations?
While I don't actually currently have XBOX Live for my Korean XBOX 360, you'll have to take my word that I'm pretty much a god at any of the fighting titles except DOA1.
I cut my teeth on the game in 2001 on the Dreamcast (DOA2), then DOA3 on the original X-Box. On that system, I also played DOA:Ultimate (1 and 2), where I revisited the second game's story mode and reminisced about the Dreamcast, Ninja Gaiden, and the much maligned (partially correctly) DOA Extreme Beach Volleyball.
Then the X-Box 360 came out and I've since played DOA4, the again much maligned DOAX2, and the undeniably awesome Ninja Gaiden II.
-----------
Anyways, that's a brief history of me and the game. I may come across as something of a fanboy, and perhaps I am. But I've been playing fighting games ever since at least Mortal Kombat 2 back in the early nineties and in all the numerous fighting series that I've ever played, I've never come across a control system that was as tight and intuitive as the one found in Dead or Alive. Also, the absence of magic or weapons from the DOA fights ensures that it is kept clean, concise, and focused on the (mostly) 100% real fighting moves.
If I had to describe the game to someone who'd never played it before, I'd say that it's like a cross between Rock/Paper/Scissors (at the most basic level), Chess (at the more advanced level), and the HOOters restaurant chain (at pretty much any level!)
Discuss.
