The new logo (left) being used in some Starbucks outlets has caused offence

US coffee chain Starbucks has come under fire for a new logo that critics say is offensive and overly graphic. The Resistance, a US-based Christian group, has called for a national boycott of the coffee-selling giant. It says the chain's new logo has a naked woman on it with her legs "spread like a prostitute... The company might as well call themselves Slutbucks". Starbucks says the image - based on a 16th century Norse design of a mermaid with two-tails - is not inappropriate. Rather, the image is a more conservative version of the original Starbucks design, which hung above the chain's first store when it opened in Seattle's Pike Place Market in 1971.

Of course it can go both ways... I remember when Snapple was forced to change the background image on its labels because people said it looked like slaves being off-loaded from a slave ship... It was the Boston Tea Party...

With this logo, I can see the moral fiber of America disintegrating before my very eyes!

I prefer the current green logo myself. I actually had no idea that it was supposed to be a two tailed mermaid. Looks more like a Queen/Princess with crazy arms. The brown one is more revealing with breasts, so I can see the fervor over its use.

Yea, I prefer the current one as well.

The one on the left is a very old logo for Starbucks. It was used when the company first began. You can still see it if you go to the Pike Place Market original Starbucks. It was dropped when Schultz took the company over. But so you guys know, it is not a new logo. They brought it back, apparently, to show their North-West heritage. I don't particularly care for the old one, but I do not object to it being on my coffe, which I get everyday.

I love my state and do a lot of research about its history.

The tea trade ships mostly doubled as slave ships tho...

OMG that's so hot, can somebody please blow me up a larger image of the brown logo for my, erm, wanking purposes?!?

These idiots really need to get out of the church more often. Everything in the world is not an assault on their own personal morality; if they really feel that way, they oughta move out to Saudi Arabia or Afghanistan or somewhere else where everyone shares their belief that modernity represents an assault on religion and the collapse of sexual morality. The Starbucks logo in question is actually one of the less blatant uses of sexuality to sell products in today's anything-goes corporate culture.

On a semi-related note, I worked for a Starbucks for about 2 months before I left America for Korea about a year ago. And let me tell you, it was a kinder, gentler, more innocent time, before all this Brown Slut Logo Heresy!

I'm simply amazed at the crap that comes out of these "Chrtian" fundalmentalists, you'd expect this sentiment from someone in the middle east.

Frankly, I'll never understand the American uptightness over the human (or mermaid) body... If you cannot deal with a little artistic nudity you really should go to your compound and wait for the second coming and leave the rest of us in peace.

It's just them god damn religious conservatives.
I mean, I believe in a little censorship. Just for Kids 13 and under. But everything else(except bestiality) should be uncensored for everybody over 13 and had a sex ed class.
