The PS3 is no where comparable to the Crapbox. For a good 1 year lead on PS3, it has no where the advantages a PS3 offers.

Happened to me before, it's one of two things:

1. Laser is broken

2. Inside needs to be cleaned.

I had to get the laser replaced, and that's not always 100% guaranteed to work. Didn't work for me, but luckily Sony was nice enough to send me a new one for free, and not charge for the laser.

I have heard that the bluray drive is one of the more common hardware problems that the PS3 has (you see plenty of them for sale on eBay). It may be as simple as cleaning or more serious failure. Getting the unit repaired/fixed by Sony depends highly on your warranty status and/or how much money you want to invest to fix it if out of warranty.

I'd say contact Sony and see if they have any easy troubleshooting advice directly and/or repair service available.

Please ensure that all procedures have been followed correctly before contacting us by phone. You may be able to resolve your issue with the least amount of effort using our online Help & Support section as well as your instruction manual. If you do not have an instruction manual, click here.

If you have attempted all troubleshooting and are still unable to resolve your query, you may have a non functional system. To reach us, please call the PlayStation Careline.

tom, just because Microsoft has brainwashed you doesn't mean you have to do the same to us :P

Okay, so I'll uhh... call Sony and see how much it costs, it's already happened before and my warranty is long gone. It's been 2 years and a bit already... November 30, 2007 was when I got it. A day which will live in infamy, because I was sick that day and when it was brought home I left it there for two weeks before setting it up :P

Thanks for the helpful people! Not you tom...

Anyways, called them, since it is an "out of warranty" unit, despite it being fixed before - I have to fork out $250 for a fix. <_<

Good luck getting it fixed or replaced! :/

X-Box Pro? Nah, that's gay. I trust Microsoft for computers, not gaming.

It's okay bigdaddychacha (I forgot how I shortened it :P), I have to pander for some money from somewhere. I think I'll delve into prostitution.

By that, I mean, get other people to do it - with me taking 100% of their income.

Really? $250 Australia or $250 US...that's still a lot of money to fix an out of warranty unit <_<

Only $149.99 when I requested a repair, ouch. Maybe you could try your luck with a local game store that does repairs?

They are still living in 2005 exchange rates, Imperial :P

I'll try my luck at EB Games or JB Hifi or Game or whatnot... I might even open the thing up myself! Who knows.

This is still better then the crapbox...If its broken down after 2 years. Better then the failure rates Xbox has over a 2 year time span.

I remember reading that like 90% of XBox's break down, vs. around 20% of PS3's.

What do you do? Get an X-Box 360 like you should have done in the first place. XD

I won't knock PS3 entirely because it does have a built in Blu-Ray player.

Thankfully, I'm trying to blow air into the CD drive to blow said air away. Unsuccessfully so far.
