View Full Version : Humor me with your gas prices.

Today it hit $3.75 across the street from my work. Outrageous. But I'm not going to sit and whine and drag it out, because I know there is someone here on the West coast paying $4.00 + per gallon. Humor me. If you want to keep this topic going, I'd be interested to see what the gas prices are in a week...or two.

I was in San Diego last week and it was only at $3.60. In southern NH it's ranging $3.40 to $3.55

It's getting to an all-time high around here, but I know it's worse in Europe.

I heard that too. It just seems way to high though. I think the government will eventually do something to fix it. Hopefully before it goes that high.

The only real satisfaction I get from them is that eventually the gas suppliers will have all of my money, and I'll stop buying gas.

I live opposite side of the water from Seattle. Thursday it was $3.89 in Seattle, $3.49 in Bremerton (work vs home). I just put a little over 5 gallons in the car before work, cost me $20. It went up to $3.79 at my home, and out of morbid curiosity I'll see what Seattle's prices are in the morning.

F*ck the car, I'm getting a damned bike. $8 for the ferry to/from SEattle, then about a 40 mile bike ride to work. At least I will still be able to afford to get my kids something to eat.

Still $3.89. It went down a dime last night which surprised me, but then went back up to $3.89. Of course the Marathon down the street was already at $4 but they are always above everyone else.

And I like how they're talking about taping oil reserves here in the US. Its amazing to me how much cash these oil companies can make. Seriously, we could have $0.25 a gallon for the next 10 years and it wouldn't hurt the oil companies. Billion dollar profits every year...its disgusting.

Lmcfalcon12
05-16-2008, 05:13 PM
...oh and check this one. Exxon Mobil made some ungodly amount of money last year. If you work it out, it becomes $1068.?? a second. A SECOND! Multiply it out and its: $33,588,172,800. To tell you the truth, it might even be higher than that.

It gets better. This is just Ex. Mobil. That doesn't even count BP, Shell, Murphy Fuels, Sunoco...I could go on. But their all making billion$ per year too.

I can't wait until the oil in the Middle East is exhausted, we'll have no further reason to be there anymore.

"Customers, where are you? I want to sell oil but where are the customers? I can't sell oil just to be stored at sea," Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal told a news conference.

Also: My dad is a Financial Planner, and we were talking about gas prices last week. He said that the price of oil is inflated about $30-40 because of hedge funds buying up oil to recoup losses from the sub-prime fallout. Watch around late June as their position moves to sell, and the price of oil plummets to around $90 a barrel. So thankfully, the end is in sight for this current peak.

Zagato

Around $1.30 per litre in my area. But I hear that by late June, the provincial government is going to tax gasoline, and especially diesel, up to $2.00+ per litre to 'encourage' the use of public transportation and carpooling.

Wouldn't do it if I were you. Ethanol production is probably going to go down due to the food shortage that it is creating. If you want to go with a new generation fuel system, stick with electric/gas hybrid also the hydrogen fuel cell technology is getting better and will probably be in at least limited production in the next 5 to 7 years.

Funny, how the Democrats made all these promises in the last elections and none of them ever happened. Now, Clinton and Obama are making all sorts of promises (like pulling out of Iraq too early) and what do you think will happen if they get elected? There is a reason that the Congressional approval rating is below Bush's approval rating (18% to I think 28 or 30% last time I looked) and a similar reason is why you never hear about the Congressional approval rating...

$3.82-$3.89...for like 2 weeks now. They say the national average is over $4.** a gallon so I'm not going to complain.

1.59 a litre, which is you work out with exchange rates and metric to imperial measurements measn we pay a hell of a lot more then Americans, simply because the American government subsidizes petrol prices while the Australian taxes it.

You know the Cleveland news has been harping the gas prices here and its ridiculous because on the West side, gas has stayed the same price for about 3 weeks. I'm sick of them calling it a crisis. Yeah. Sure its important because it rose 300% in the last 2 years, but seriously.

The Corporal

Mercifully the prices have dropped down to $4.02. I still don't understand how the price can shift as much as 15 cents in less than 24 hours here in Illinois...

Texas (at least where I am) prices are somewhere in the $3.80-$4.00 range. It costs me $100 to fill up now.

When the Irish Government refused the EUs constitution a couple days ago, the dollar rose a little, and the price per barrel for crude dropped too =)

The whole damn world could be paying like a buck a gallon. I don't understand sometimes. Exxon mobil makes like $1000 every second. We could have free gas for like 10 years with all the money they've made over the last few.

Ummm....no. Yes, ExxonMobil made $40 billion dollars, but that's on $460 billion in sales. That kind of profit margin is absolute garbage compared to every other major business. It costs $200,000 a day to maintain a single off-shore oil rig. That's $73 million a year, per rig. There are a lot of oil rigs out there. Even land new wells cost an average of $80k-100k a day. People get awestruck when they see a number like $40 billion and forget to ask what the revenues were...

$3.88 if you're lucky.

...but if you couldn't get to the station in time $4.15-$4.17

Its a fricking joke. They pull this bullshit right before every major holiday and then raise it like 2 weeks before the holiday. It'll drop to $3.99 after Independence Day and then go up again around Labor Day.

Holy shit, another northern Wisconsinite? Where from? I went to Lakeland.

Also, prices here are about the same as before. They dipped to $3.99 last weekend, but have leveled out just around $4.10 or so, depending on where you go.
