It's true.

I used to play NS and I checked up on it...and they don't have the UN anymore...they have a WA. World Assembly.

I was like...wtf?

And I was saying to myself, LOL!

And then I said to myself, the UN has nothing better to do than to pick on an innocent author? How sad.

The UN picks on individual people that annoy them? What a surprise! [/sarcasm]

I thought it was a little strange when it changed one day, but I'm not a member because I like creating genetic super soldiers. :D

Seriously though, the UN temporarily shut down a freelance reporter that published stories exposing UN corruption on Google News (Google's excuse is that people were complaining about something retarded). He was reinstated after the story of his shutting down was featured in an editorial on foxnews.com, but that's some shady crap on the UN's part.

I played NS about 4 years ago, it was entertaining but lacked stuff to do. In this case, Max Barry is in the legal wrong. Plain & simple. They aren't picking on him, as he's been able to operate the site for years without problem. They're enforcing their copyright as anyone else would do.

The UN copyrighted that? Oh well, I don't really care. The UN is a bloated, corrupt, archaic institution that does absolutely nothing but piss people off or take away the sovereignty of its member states. I don't see how Max Barry actually made any direct profit off of his use of any UN copyrights anyways. You could argue that NS site traffic increased sales of his books, but you could also argue that bacon isn't tasty - but you would be wrong. ;)

Well, I said "pick on" because you would think that the UN has better stuff to do.

The UN, like other government orgs, has various departments & agencies. Its probably under the Office of Legal Affairs under the Secretariat when it comes to protecting the UN's legalities. http://www.un.org/aboutun/chart.html
